The Black In Sport Summit was launched in 2022 to celebrate the achievements of black people across the sports industry and to inspire a new generation of sports industry professionals. In 2023 with the backing of Sky and Loughborough University, the Black In Sport Summit scaled from Loughborough University campus to the iconic London Stadium in Stratford – home of West Ham United Football Club and the host venue for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We are leading the way in changing the narrative and celebrating the good, instead of only highlighting the bad. BISS is a platform to amplify the conversation and inspire action. Our aim is to inspire young people by leveraging the stories and experiences of diverse professionals in sport. Through our community, we also aim to cultivate an environment where young people have easy access to opportunities and networks to kickstart or boost their careers in sport and beyond. We aim to highlight that there is an effective support system within sport that can guide you all the way. BISS is not exclusively to or for black people. We want to reach as far and wide as possible and provide opportunities for as many people as possible. The Black In Sport Summit is important because it is vital to see practical steps being taken towards challenging bias in sport, as well as listening to real-life stories and lessons from authentic role models. For many years, there have been attempts to tackle bias in sport, a lot of which are perceived as performative. With the right backing and coverage of BISS, we not only acknowledge the undeniable influence of black sports professionals, but we also set the stage for a new generation of fearless trailblazers and leaders in the sports industry.
